4 Things To Do In Mexico

playa del

Mexico is one of those destinations where you can always find something to do, no matter where you are or what you want to do. I love visiting this wonderful country and I want to share some of the most amazing things that you can do there and what makes it one of my top travel destinations.

Hit the beach

I really enjoy Mexico beach rentals and they are the perfect place to base yourself for some relaxation on the beach in Mexico. There is a huge abundance of beaches in Mexico, especially when you consider how much coastline Mexico has. The best ones in my mind are those on the Yucatan Peninsula (which is also my favourite food destination, but I will get to that shortly). Imagine clear blue water and the squeakiest white sand you can imagine and then you have one of the many beaches on the Yucatan Peninsula. I would highly recommend the classics, like Cancun or Acapulco, or other like Playa del Carmen, Akumal or Cozumel.

Eat some amazing food

Mexico is famous for its food and you probably know a few delicious dishes like tacos, burritos and guacamole. This is delicious, of course, but there is such a wide variety of foods in the entire country that you probably don’t know about. A visit to Mexico is the perfect opportunity to try something new like exotic salsas or more daring options like worms and fried grasshoppers. As I mentioned above the Yucatan cuisine is the best of them all and perhaps the most famous. I love eating things like cochinita pibil, which is a tasty pork dish that has a sauce made from red onions, oranges and annatto sauce. This amazing slow cooked dish is cooked for many hours in an oven below the ground. The way the pork tenderises and melts in your mouth is something that you won’t soon forget.

Visit Coba

Coba is one of the many Maya ruins that dot the Yucatan Peninsula. This one is very special though, because it is the highest pyramid in the Maya world. It is stepped and you can even climb to the top. Fascinatingly, the area was once a great city that was home to about 50,000 people. The jungle that surrounds it is also quite an experience with some great places to explore and amazing wildlife, like monkeys and tropical birds, to see. This place was also an important area in terms of trade and the remnants of roads used by the Maya still exist today. This is a very fascinating culture that you need to explore when you are Mexico and there are many other sites to do this too.

Go shopping

Mexico has a huge range of traditional handcrafts that make it the ideal destination to find an amazing souvenir. By this I don’t mean a wooden keyring or a postcard, but rather real goods crafted with care by Mexican people. You can admire the leather goods made in Guanajuato or the handcrafted items like colourful cloth and bead art that they are famous for. Mexico really does have a great tradition for these things, so it is always a great idea to have a look and visit these kinds of places.
